I have been reminded again recently just what a difference good quality, well made curtains and blinds and other accessories can make to the look and feel of a room. I do love being a curtain maker and having the opportunity to play a part in making a house a home. Good feedback about my curtain making service is then the icing on the cake!

I love the variety in my job! Take the month of August for instance. As well as the normal requests for made to measure curtains, custom roman blinds and cushions, I have completed orders for loose chair covers, pelmets, voile drapes, a bed canopy, bed runner and wardrobe fabric panels. Never a dull moment!

We are in dialogue at the moment with Stroud District Council to see how curtain fabric off-cuts might be recycled locally. It's an inevitable product of my curtain making that some fabric is leftover from the making of made to measure curtains and roman blinds and I really don't want to just scrap the excess material. The light blocking qualities of blackout lining when sewn to curtains and roman blinds are well known. It has also been estimated that good quality blackout curtains and roman blinds can retain an added 30% of the heat lost through windows. Whilst my curtain making service is centred mainly on Gloucestershire and The Cotswolds, in the last few months I have made curtains, roman blinds, cushions and other accessoies for customers in Wiltshire, Devon, Lancashire, Bristol, London and Dublin. I have found a very good courier service and find that the despatch of curtain fabric or the finished items works just fine.

I always think that Roman Blinds or Roman Shades as they are sometimes known, provide a particularly stylish way of dressing a window.Roman blinds are generally made from a light or medum weight curtain fabric and often lined they give a neat and contemporary look to any room.

If you are looking for tie-backs to keep your made to measure curtains looking tidy when drawn back, plaited tie-backs look particularly attractive. Tie-backs are a good idea, particularly for long window curtains and door curtains, and hand sewn plaits add a nice "twist". It's often those little details that enhance the overall decor of a room.

Walked down to the Farmers Market in Stroud this morning, a favourite early Saturday morning routine for my husband and I. With the sun shining again we were reminded of what a buzzy place Stroud really is especially on a Saturday morning. Why not combine dropping off curtain fabric or collecting finished made to measure curtains or roman blinds with a visit to Stroud Farmers Market as well.

Have just finished making some made to measure curtains for an unusual application - a VW Transporter T4 van. This really was a bespoke curtain request and I can't wait to see the photos of them in situ - keep an eye on the web-site. As well as the curtains looking good the blackout lining will also prove very practical.
